I, Paulomi Babre an 13-year-old am a child author. I have many other hobbies apart from writing, such as swimming, painting, calligraphy, being a Youtuber, cooking and baking, coding, and more. I also have my small business called Tassels where I make and sell bookmarks, wall hangings, magnets, coasters, etc. I also was selected as the finalist in a Coding contest hosted by CodeLQ. I have also conducted many workshops and classes in this COVID-19 pandemic as I believe that little tots can also do miracles. I have written 11 books till now (The Village of Manapparai and Super Seven Stories).
I started (and fell in love with reading) my reading journey at the age of 3. I started with menu cards, boards, titles of newspapers, and small books. In the evening, my grandmother and I used to watch educational videos on a channel called BabyTV. As I was enrolled in school at the age of 1 ½, I could talk and read English at a very young age. By the age of 2, I used to read sentences and form small sentences. Because of early exposure to books and reading became a hobby, and I loved every moment of reading. I got my first novel ‘The Thirteenth Pearl’ from the Nancy Drew series when I was 6. Since then, my mini library has tremendously increased. Now, I have at least 2500+ books and more are stored in the loft/attic. Some of my favorite authors are- Enid Blyton, Eva Ibbotson, Katie Bagli, Shabnam Minwalla, Ruskin Bond, David Walliams, Sudha Murthy, J.K Rowling, Khyrunnisa A and so many more. My favorite books are- Harry Potter (especially the 4th and the 5th one), Beedle the Bard, Tinkle comics, Famous Five, Malory Towers, etc.
I never read a book forcibly, I read them because I do it with willingness. I am not much into sports (except swimming) as I never willingly did them. Some of us go into other worlds when we read but others feel as if they are reading a boring old textbook on their least favorite subject. Many of my friends don’t like to read, I’ve never forced them except to recommend a book.
While taking workshops and classes, I had the fun of being the teacher to other small kids. I taught them different types of art and solve their doubts.
Recently, in the COVID-19 pandemic, I thought that why not write a book. I had already attended many workshops hence began the process of writing my first book, ‘The Village of Manapparai’. I kept the deadline 12th October 2021 because of my dad’s birthday. I started writing at the end of February or in March and I submitted my stories in September. I published my first book with the publishing house Evincepub. I launched it on the deadline and I was so honored to have Author Katie Bagli and Illustrator Savio Mascarenhas on board with us.
My second book, Super Seven Stories was published by Explore Kids World. There was 7 days competition hosted by EKW only and all those stories were compiled and made into a book. It was released at the end of January ,2022. They all are of different genres given by EKW.
Without my parents, none of this would have ever happened. A dream would have been a dream only. They supported every step of mine and guided me even in the dark.
My mom had found this group called ‘ ArtoonsInn Geeks Room’ and I needed a place where I could publish my works for everyone to see and get inspired by. And I came to know that they also give us copyrights so that no one can steal you work. Hence, we proceeded with the development of my website.
Now as an author, writing is a passion and is still a hobby too. I am also co-authoring with some authors and those books will soon release. My motto is that if I can find my talent and make it my passion why can’t you? Everyone has some inner talent and with a little push, you can make it your passion and ambition…
